Our Mission
At AkcaVPN, we believe that a free, open, and secure internet is a fundamental human right. Around the world, governments increasingly restrict online access, monitor communications, and silence dissenting voices. We refuse to stand by.
The Emergency VPN Program is our commitment to supporting those who need internet freedom the most: journalists reporting on corruption, activists organizing for change, NGO workers delivering aid, and human rights defenders protecting the vulnerable.
Internet censorship isn't just an inconvenience. It silences independent media, prevents access to life-saving information, isolates communities from the global conversation, and enables authoritarian control. Free access to information is the foundation of every other freedom.
Internet Censorship Today
Internet freedom has declined globally for over a decade. Governments across the world are using increasingly sophisticated tools to control what their citizens can see, say, and share online.
From full internet shutdowns during elections and protests, to targeted blocking of social media, messaging apps, and news sites, the tools of censorship are evolving rapidly. VPNs remain one of the most effective tools for bypassing these restrictions.
Most Censored Regions
- Central Asia — Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan maintain some of the most restrictive internet policies globally
- Middle East & North Africa — Iran, Syria, and Saudi Arabia heavily filter and monitor online activity
- East Asia — China's Great Firewall and North Korea's near-total isolation define the extreme end of censorship
- Sub-Saharan Africa — Growing trend of internet shutdowns during elections and political unrest
- Southeast Asia — Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia increasingly restrict online speech
