e-Devlet age verification for social media in Türkiye: what changes?
From 1 November 2026 social networks verify the age of everyone opening a new account with a token generated on e-Devlet, the state portal. Existing accounts must be verified at least once by 31 March 2027; accounts of children under 15 are closed.

- Cannot open an account. An account found to be under 15 is closed. There is a free objection process.

- Can use an exceptional token generated from passport details, without e-Devlet.

What does the platform see?
The token only shows whether you have passed the 15 and 18 thresholds. Under the regulation it carries no name, username or anything that could identify you (article 7/1-b), and the platform may not use it for anything but age verification (article 7/1-ç).
You generate the token by signing in to e-Devlet and using the online service of the Presidency's Cybersecurity Directorate. The platform then checks that the token really came from e-Devlet.

What changes for ages 15 to 18?
- The account is private by default and cannot be made public.
- Only accounts the child follows can message them. No read receipts.
- The account is not suggested to others and not matched with phone contacts.
- No live streaming.
- No infinite scroll or autoplay feed.
- No behavioural profiling or personalised ads.
- Parental controls: settings, purchase approval and limits, time limits.

What can you check yourself?
- Where do you type your e-Devlet password?
- Only at turkiye.gov.tr. Do not tap "age verification" links that arrive by SMS, message or ad.
- Does an app ask for your password on its own screen?
- That is not the method in the regulation. In the regulation you generate the token on e-Devlet.
- What does your connection reveal?
- The DNS leak test shows which DNS resolvers you use and who owns them.

Is e-Devlet verification mandatory for social media?
Yes. Accounts opened after 1 November 2026 are verified at sign-up with a token generated on e-Devlet. Existing accounts must be verified at least once by 31 March 2027.
Will Instagram or TikTok close?
As of 15 October 2026 the regulation closes no platform. A platform that does not comply faces, in order, a fine, an ad ban and bandwidth throttling.
