When and why the block came
- 9 October 2024
- Ankara 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace ordered the block at the request of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The justice minister cited child sexual abuse and obscenity offences.
- June 2026
- The transport minister said Discord would probably reopen after a while, without giving a date.
- October 2026

Why changing DNS is not enough
When Twitter was blocked in 2014 the block was in DNS, the system that turns a site name into an address. People wrote 8.8.8.8 on walls, because switching to Google's DNS was enough.
Discord's block has two layers. First the provider's DNS sends you to a block page. Even with DNS set to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8, the name of the site you want usually travels unencrypted as the connection starts, and the provider can read it. OONI's October 2026 measurements show Türk Telekom, Superonline and Vodafone cutting the connection at exactly that point.

How to open Discord in Türkiye with AkcaVPN

Does it fail on mobile data too?
The block is applied by the operator: Discord does not open on Turkcell, Vodafone or Türk Telekom mobile data either. With the VPN on it works on Wi-Fi and on mobile.
Is it safe to use a VPN?
